A Message from the 2013-2014 Convention Co-Chairs

Thank you to all the students and employers who attended ANÉA-ASNA’s 2014 Unconvention. It was a huge success, and we never imagined such an enormous response from the Canadian actuarial student community. Every aspect of the event has surpassed our initial expectations, and we are ecstatic with the end result. This year’s convention drew a total attendance of 550 students and 27 sponsors—numbers which we hope to continually grow as we reach out to more professional and aspiring actuaries across the continent.

We would like to send a big thank you to the Convention Committee from the University of Waterloo that has invested so much time into planning this event. Committee members sacrificed their school and personal time to organize a memorable ANÉA-ASNA convention. It would not have been this successful without their hard work, dedication, and determination; their efforts contributed to one of the best experiences yet for attendees and employers alike. Special acknowledgement should be given to the Convention Committee: our delegates Annie Que, Catherine Sun, Giancarlo Lahura, Isabel Ji, and Matthew Cheung; our delegate assistants Jay Patel, Jiajing Zhang, Stephen  Scicluna, and Vanessa Zhang; and finally our volunteers who took time out of their convention weekend to ensure everything ran smoothly.

We are also, of course, grateful for our sponsors, whose expertise, advice, and financial support are integral to every annual ANÉA-ASNA convention.

Congratulations again to the winner of the 2nd Annual Case Competition, the University of Calgary and McMaster University team, consisting of Justine Chiasson, Trevor Gary, Siddhesh Pawar, Michael Gee, and Jeff Bowman, and to the finalist teams from the University of Toronto and the University of Waterloo.

Lastly, we would like to thank Janet Choi, our talented graphic designer, who worked tirelessly alongside the committee to produce the spectacular visuals for Unconvention.

Cheers to a successful convention, and we hope to see you all next year!

Sincerely,

Brittany Lee and Monojit Samanta

The ASNA Convention in Quebec City in 2010 was a great opportunity for us at Sun Life to meet the actuaries of the tomorrow. We were able to share the Sun Life story with a diverse range of strong candidates during thecareer fair and are looking forward to returning to ASNA in 2011.
